Daily Bible Reading “A Brother Offended” (Proverbs 18:19-24)

Proverbs_18-19A Brother Offended

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Proverbs 18:19-24. We are reminded in this Scripture that a brother who has been offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.

When we’ve been hurt sometimes it’s hard for us to forgive and forget. Jesus died on the cross for our forgiveness, yet we find it difficult sometimes to forgive others. We need to ask Him to help us to be more forgiving.

A person’s belly will be satisfied with the fruit of their mouth; and with the increase of their lips they will be filled.

Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and those who love it will eat the fruit thereof. We can either speak life into people or we can speak death with our mouth. Lord help us to speak life.

Whoever finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor of the LORD. Having a good husband/wife relationship is one of the most rewarding relationships you will have in this life. I remember my husband quoting this Scripture to me before we got married. I hope he still feels this way after over forty years of marriage.

The poor uses entreaties; but the rich answers roughly.

A person who has friends must show themselves to be friendly: and there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

In order for us to have friends we have to show ourselves to be friendly. We have to make sacrifices for the other person. We have to spend time with people if we are going to be friends with them. Building relationships takes time. It is not something that just happens instantly.

Jesus is the friend who sticks closer than an brother. If you need a true friend, He is the one. He loves you unconditionally.

Things to think about:

  • What does this Scripture say about a brother who has been offended?
  • What does this Scripture say about the tongue?
  • What does this Scripture say about a man who finds a wife?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we read this Scripture in the book of Proverbs we are reminded that a brother who is offended is harder to win than a city. Help us to strive to get along with one another and not offend each other. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
