Daily Bible Reading “I Will Give Thanks to Thee Forever” (Psalm 30:1-12)

I Will Give Thanks to Thee Forever

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 30:1-12. Psalm 30 is a Psalm of dedication of the house of David. David says he will praise the LORD because He has lifted him up and not let David’s enemies claim victory over him. David thanks God for healing him, for bringing his soul from the grave and keeping him alive.

David thanks God for His favor on his life. David declares to the saints they should sing praises to the LORD and give thanks at the remembrance of God’s holiness. David says God’s anger only lasts for a minute, but in His favor is life. David reminds us that crying may last during the darkest hours, but joy comes at the break of day.

In many ways David was a blessed man. He knew where his riches came from. God took a shepherd boy and raised him up to be king over Israel. David stood strong in his belief and trust of the LORD so he declared “I will not be moved.” He praised the LORD for making him to stand strong in the midst of his trials. David knew that when God hid His face from him it caused much sorrow.

David couldn’t stand the fact that the LORD wasn’t happy with him. David needed God’s favor on his life. He says, he cried and prayed to God making his request known to God.

David asks God what it will profit Him if he dies. He then asks God if his dust will praise Him and proclaim His truth. David begs the LORD for mercy and asks Him to be his helper.

Obviously the LORD heard and answered David’s prayer because David states that the LORD turned his sadness into dancing, took his sorrow, and turned it into gladness. David proclaims that he will sing praises to the LORD and give thanks to Him forever.

Daily Bible Reading:

Psalm 30:1-12

1 [[A Psalm and Song at the dedication of the house of David.]] I will extol thee, O LORD; for thou hast lifted me up, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me.
2 O LORD my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.
3 O LORD, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.
4 Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.
5 For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.
6 And in my prosperity I said, I shall never be moved.
7 LORD, by thy favour thou hast made my mountain to stand strong: thou didst hide thy face, and I was troubled.
8 I cried to thee, O LORD; and unto the LORD I made supplication.
9 What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit? Shall the dust praise thee? shall it declare thy truth?
10 Hear, O LORD, and have mercy upon me: LORD, be thou my helper.
11 Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness;
12 To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.

Things to think about:

  • Have you ever praised and thanked the LORD outside of church or tragedy?
  • In what ways have you experienced God’s favor in your life?
  • Have you ever asked God to have mercy on you and your life?
  • Do you have any idea how much God loves you?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the homes You have provided for us. We dedicate them to You. We give thanks to You for watching over us and protecting us. We thank You for giving us favor in our lives. We thank You for Your mercy and Your love. We will sing praises to You and give thanks to You forever. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

About the book:

The Book of Psalms: Part 1 Chapters 1-30 by Deborah H. Bateman is part of the Daily Bible Reading Series. The book of Psalms contains 150 chapters. Deborah divided The Book of Psalms into five books to make it easier to read and study. Each book will contain approximately thirty chapters from the book of Psalms.

Psalm 119 will not be included in The Book of Psalms since Deborah has already published a book about it called: Psalm 119: Thy Word is a Lamp unto My Feet. The book of Psalms is one of Deborah’s favorite books of the Bible. It is a great book to read if you’re ever feeling down or need to renew your relationship with Christ. King David went through a lot of tough times in his lifetime, but he loved God and trusted God to protect him from the enemies.

The book of Psalms was written by various people. About half of it was attributed to King David, whether they were written by David or for David is questioned by some biblical scholars. Some of the Psalms were written by Asaph and some say they were written for the sons of Korah and even Moses and Solomon were writers of the Psalms. The Psalms consists of poetry that was primarily meant to be used as songs of praise to the Lord.

The Book of Psalms Part 1 Chapters 1-30 contains thirty-one Daily Bible Reading Lessons. Each lesson contains a brief commentary by the author, the Daily Bible Reading Scriptures, a few questions for contemplation or discussion, and a prayer of the day. It is a great Bible study for individuals or groups.
