Daily Bible Reading “I Love the LORD” (Psalm 116:1-9)

I Love the LORD

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 116:1-9. The Psalmist declares his love for the LORD because God hears and answers his prayers. He proclaims that he will call on the name of the LORD as long as he lives because the LORD listens to him. He cried out to the LORD to deliver his soul. Do you spend time daily praying to the LORD?

The LORD is gracious, merciful, and righteous. The LORD preserves the simple. The Psalmist says he was brought low and the LORD helped him. Have you ever been humbled?

He says the LORD has delivered his soul from death, his eyes from tears, and his feet from falling. The Psalmist declares his soul can rest because the LORD has dealt with him favorably. He declares he will walk before the LORD in the land of the living.

Daily Bible Reading:

Psalm 116:1-9

1 I love the LORD, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications.
2 Because he hath inclined his ear unto me, therefore will I call upon him as long as I live.
3 The sorrows of death compassed me, and the pains of hell gat hold upon me: I found trouble and sorrow.
4 Then called I upon the name of the LORD; O LORD, I beseech thee, deliver my soul.
5 Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; yea, our God is merciful.
6 The LORD preserveth the simple: I was brought low, and he helped me.
7 Return unto thy rest, O my soul; for the LORD hath dealt bountifully with thee.
8 For thou hast delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling.
9 I will walk before the LORD in the land of the living.

Things to think about:

  • In what ways do you show your love for the LORD?
  • How many times has the LORD heard and answered your prayers?
  • What are some of the prayers that God has answered that stand out in your mind?
  • Have you ever been to the point of death like the Psalmist and the LORD delivered you? If so, take time to praise Him for His deliverance. If not, thank Him for your health.

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank You for this Scripture in Psalm 116 where the Psalmist declares his love for You. He reminds us that You hear and answer our prayers. He also reminds us of Your mercy, grace, and righteousness. Help us to come to You in prayer with our cares and concerns. Help us to honor You for Your love and mercy toward us. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

The book of Psalms was written by various people. About half of it was attributed to King David, whether they were written by David or for David is questioned by some biblical scholars. Some of the Psalms were written by Asaph and some say they were written for the sons of Korah and even Moses and Solomon were writers of the Psalms. The Psalms consists of poetry that was primarily meant to be used as songs of praise to the Lord.

The Book of Psalms: Part 4 Chapters 91-118 contains thirty-six Daily Bible Reading Lessons. Each lesson contains a brief commentary by the author, the Daily Bible Reading Scriptures, a few questions for contemplation or discussion, and a prayer of the day.
