Delight in the LORD

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 37:1-10. Psalm 37 is a Psalm of David. David reminds us not to get frustrated, aggravated or envious of evil doers. They will be cut down and wither away like the grass. They may seem to prosper, but their evil ways will catch up with them. Are there things in your life that make you so enraged that you almost can’t control your actions? What can we do, as believers, to combat this attitude?

Instead, David exhorts us to trust in the LORD, and do good and He will give us the desires of our hearts. He will change the desires of our hearts to line up with His desires. We are reminded to delight ourselves in the LORD, and trust in Him. When we delight ourselves in the LORD, our attitude will change. When we commit our ways to the LORD, He will bless us.

David tells us to rest in the LORD and wait patiently; we will get our just reward. Do you find it hard sometimes to wait patiently on the LORD?

We need to avoid being angry and keep ourselves from expressing our wrath. We shouldn’t let our passions cause us to do evil things. Evil doers will be cut off, but those who wait on the LORD will inherit the earth. The wicked will be destroyed, but those who put their trust and faith in the LORD will be rewarded.

Daily Bible Reading:

Psalm 37:1-10

1 [[[A Psalm] of David.]] Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.
2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.
3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
4 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
6 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.
7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.
8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.
9 For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.
10 For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.

• In what ways do you trust in the LORD?
• In what ways do you delight in the LORD?
• How have you committed your life to the LORD?
• How do you find rest in the LORD?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank You for this Scripture in this Psalm of David. Through this Scripture we see if we follow God and commit ourselves to You our lives will be blessed. Help us to stay away from evil and to trust our lives to You. Help us to delight in You and allow You to change our hearts and our lives. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

King David went through a lot of tough times in his lifetime, but he loved God and trusted God to protect him from his enemies.

The book of Psalms was written by various people. About half of it was attributed to King David, whether they were written by David or for David is questioned by some biblical scholars. Some of the Psalms were written by Asaph and some say they were written for the sons of Korah and even Moses and Solomon were writers of the Psalms. The Psalms consists of poetry that was primarily meant to be used as songs of praise to the Lord.

The Book of Psalms: Part 2 Chapters 31-60 contains thirty-five Daily Bible Reading Lessons. Each lesson contains a brief commentary by the author, the Daily Bible Reading Scriptures, a few questions for contemplation or discussion, and a prayer of the day. It is a great Bible study for individuals or group studies.
